WHY BOTHER TO PROTECT YOUR TYRES ? The fact is most motorhome and caravan tyres take a very long time to reach the point where they need to be replaced due to insufficient tread depth (less than 1.6 mm).Typically the front tyres on a front wheel drive vehicle are good for 20,000 miles, with the rear tyres lasting up to 40,000 miles. Rubber compounds used in tyres cotain anti-oxidants that slow the process of ageing however tyres still deteriorate with age. See below some of the signs, sidewall cracks along with splits in the tread bearing surfaces of the tyres. Due in part to the fact that the tyres are stood for long periods in the same position subject to the harsh UV rays of the sun which hasten the deterioration process. Most tyre manufacturers and government bodies recommend that tyres should be checked regularly once they reach 5 years of age and replaced at 7 years even if they do not show any of the signs listed below

You can check the age of your own tyres to see if they need replacing. You need to locate the production date stamp which can be printed into the sidewall in any number of different ways, below are two examples in the first example the 4806 denotes the tyre was produced in week 48 of 2006, in the second example the BPY0806 denotes the tyre was manufactured in week 08 of 2006

One way to ensure you get the maximum life from your tyres is to protect them from prolonged exposure to high temperatures and high UV levels, Our range of wheel protectors can do just that
We have two different types, to suit both your personal needs and budget
The first version is a standard one size fits all grey heavy duty plastic version which is less effective in reducing heat but does block out all the harmfull UV rays, and is more suitable for use in this country.
The second is a high performance reflective silver coated version which deflects both heat and UV rays, just the job for over wintering in Spain, Portugal, Morroco etc where the suns rays are much stronger than in this country - available in a range of different sizes.
Both types have a hood which fits over and behind the tyre, plus eyelets at the base so they can be secured to the ground with pegs
